Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"We were just trying to survive this game. We had two guys out with an injury and Sosa with a bruised knee. We survived it and we should be healthy by Saturday. Edgar should be healthy as well."
(On whether he was pleased with the game) "Not particularly. It's tough to tell in this type of game- whether we played well or didn't play well, I think we played hard. It's tough to tell."
(What did you get out of this game) "A `W' and I say that only because we're banged up so much and because we've got two key components out. We had seven goals that we wanted to get tonight defensively - we got one. So that's not really good for us."
(On whether Siva's absence will slow him down?) "He's only going to be out four or five days, it's not going to be that long."
(On Jerry Smith driving to the basket) "I think that's where you get your confidence going, easy bucket. If you just keep shooting three's you're not going to get a lot of confidence going, so I think he's smart enough to know that."
"We're going to have a tough one on Saturday. With this type of game coming back it's really good to see we got the ball inside - we'll work inside to out. But Saturday we're going to have to because Charlotte is a basketball team that we know really well. We know what they're all about offensively. We've got to really make sure that we focus on our defense. So tomorrow we're going to get up really early and go to work. The guys didn't get our goals, so we're going to get up at 6:15 tomorrow and go to work. They tried really hard, they just didn't. I'll give you an example of what I'm talking about. 35 deflections last year, probably averaged 36 or 37. We almost got it every single game. We haven't got it one time this year. We only had five steals tonight. But I thought our press was better tonight than it's been because five or six 25 second. So we're way behind defensively, but it will come. We've got to get to our semester break where we can work on things and not worry about the clock so much."
(Which one of the seven goals did you complete) "We wanted to keep them under 38 percent shooting field goal percentage wise. We wanted to keep them under 30 from the three-point line, I think it was 33. We wanted to force 22 plus turnovers, we forced 18. We wanted 12 steals, which was very lofty, we had five. We wanted to keep them out of the arc around the basket, six or below, we had seven. We wanted 35 deflections, we had 33. I think a normal coaching staff that wins by 30 would say okay, close enough, don't worry about it. But we're not normal."
Stetson Head Coach Derek Waugh
"To have a chance to win the game, we had to be under 10 turnovers, we had to keep them under 70 points and we had to shoot 50 percent. We didn't hit any of those three, but we weren't way, way off. I thought everyone that came into the game for us contributed, but nobody had a great game and that's what we needed to beat Louisville. I thought our guys showed a lot of pride tonight, especially after the long bus trip yesterday. We had excuses to just lie down and die tonight, but I don't think we did that. I thought Louisville played better, but we certainly didn't rollover for them."
"After the game, Coach Pitino wished me and our team the best of luck and I told him I wish I could go through a game and not sweat like he does."
