LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino met with members of the media on Tuesday at the Yum! Center to preview Saturday's first true road game against UNLV. The Cards and Runnin' Rebels will tip off at 4:07 p.m. ET at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., and the game will be televised nationally on VERSUS.
Louisville swept their four games in the Hall of Fame Showcase to open the season, including an 80-53 victory over Appalachian State in Freedom Hall on Monday. Sophomore Samardo Samuels led the Cards with 16 points, while Preston Knowles and Edgar Sosa added 11 points apiece. U of L finished the game with four players in double figures.
UNLV, among teams receiving votes in both polls, knocked off Southern Illinois 78-69 on Nov. 21 and have won their first three games. Junior Tre'Von Willis scored a career-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists against the Salukis. Willis leads the team with 16.7 points per game. UNLV has seven players that are averaging between 6.7 and 9.0 points, while shooting 46.4 percent from the field. Their defense has held opponents to 36.6 and 22.9 percent field goal and three-point shooting, respectively. The Runnin' Rebels will host Holy Cross on Wednesday prior to their meeting with the Cards. UNLV is no. 23 in the early Sagarin Ratings through games of Nov. 24.
The Cards are trying to avenge a 56-55 defeat at home to UNLV a year ago.
