- Today's game was the first meeting ever between the two schools. The Cardinals are 31-22 all-time against teams from the Sun Belt Conference.
- The victory improved the Cardinals to 3-1 at home this season and 11-7 under head coach Steve Kragthorpe.
- QB Will Stein, a walk-on from Trinity High School, made his first collegiate start and completed 20-of-39 passes for 232 yards. His last extensive action on this field was when his Trinity team won the 2007 Class 6A state championship. As a senior at Trinity, Stein completed 255-of-360 passes for 3,697 yards and a school-record 54 touchdowns. U of L has started a different quarterback in each of its three victories this season.
- LB Brandon Heath recorded his second interception of the season and his career when he returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown. It was the second touchdown of his career, also scoring when he returned a blocked field goal 60 yards last season in a 35-28 victory over Memphis. It was the Cardinals' first defensive touchdown of the season.
- U of L produced its third-best defensive effort of the season, limiting the Red Wolves to 348 yards in total offense, including just 45 yards on the ground.
- LB Jon Dempsey, who leads the Cardinals with 80 tackles this season, produced his team-high fourth sack of the season. Dempsey totaled a team-high 12 tackles today (6 solo, 6 assisted).
- WR Doug Beaumont made his 20th straight start at wide receiver. C Mario Benavides and OT Byron Stingily are the only two linemen to start all eight games. Beaumont also extended his consecutive games with a catch streak to 20 straight games with a reception in the first quarter.
- WR Trent Guy caught a season-high 4 passes for a team-high 61 yards.
- RB Darius Ashley recorded his first career touchdown when he scampered a career-long 26 yards in the first quarter. He rushed 13 times for a career-best 77 yards and two touchdowns.
- CB Johnny Patrick, DE Greg Scruggs, DT L.T. Walker and L.D. Scott, LB Jon Dempsey and CB Chaz Thompson each started their eighth straight game.
- RB Bilal Powell had 17 carries for 93 yards, the fifth occasion in his career that he has gained over 75 yards in a game.
