Food Drive Saturday at West Virginia-Louisville Game
Saturday, Governor Beshear will join forces with the Dare to Care Food Drive and the University of Louisville to collect much needed food items for families and individuals in the Louisville Metro area impacted by this week's winter storm.
Outside all entrances to Freedom Hall, University of Louisville and Dare to Care volunteers will be on hand to collect food items and financial donations to benefit those in Jefferson and surrounding counties who have been impacted by the ice, snow and freezing rain. As of Friday morning, more than 547,000 Kentuckians are still without power, with 172,000 in Jefferson County area alone.
"During these tough economic times, families across Kentucky are struggling everyday to keep food on the table for their families," said Governor Beshear. "This week's ice storm has only added to the hurdles so many Kentuckians are facing. Thanks to the efforts of outstanding community organizations like Dare to Care and their work with the University of Louisville, we hope to make this difficult time a little easier for those in the Jefferson County area hit hard by the storms."
Food collection will begin at all arena entrances prior to the men's basketball game tip-off at noon and will continue throughout the remainder of the game. Louisville residents who are unable to make it to tomorrow's drop-off locations are encouraged to still contribute non-perishable food items to Dare to Care's headquarters, located at 5803 Fern Valley Rd. Monetary donations can also mailed to Dare to Care at P.O. Box 35458, Lousville, KY 40232.
