Louisville, Ky. - 18-1, 5-0
We are getting ready to fly home from our nation's capital after a 74-58 win over Georgetown. We are off to a school best 18-1 record overall and 5-0 in the Big East. I am very proud of how these young ladies have been playing and I can see their desire to continue to improve. We know that for us to be the best we can't afford to take a day off.
We started this week with a trip down to Tampa to take on the University of South Florida. Louisville had lost the previous two meetings at USF but I felt that we were prepared for the challenge. It was a very good game for the first 15 minutes and USF took a 23-21 lead. At that point we turned up the heat and went on a 17-1 run to end the half with a 38-24 lead.
In the second half we extended the lead to 24 but USF would not go away. They climbed back to within six points with less than 10 minutes in the game. We got the built the lead up to nine before Angel McCoughtry fouled out with five minutes left. Instead of going into a panic, we kept our composure and extended the lead to 18 before winning 76-60.
We are here in Washington, D.C. during an historic time in our nation's history, as Barack Obama will become our 44th President on Tuesday. The city is in a buzz and people are on every street selling commemorative souvenirs for the event. We will gather as a team on Tuesday to watch the Inauguration together in our lounge. This is a historic moment in our history and I think it is very important for our players to witness it.
We return to Freedom Hall on Tuesday night to take on Cincinnati at 8:00p.m. The game will be televised live on CBS-College Sports. The Bearcats are 3-1 in the BIG EAST and have been playing very good basketball. I am expecting a very competitive game from start to finish. I will be sure to give you an update after the game and the Inauguration.
Be Good, Be Safe and Be Yourself...
Go CARDS!
