The No. 40-ranked University of Louisville women's tennis team started the dual season out with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Morehead State, taking all six singles matches and the doubles point.

"This was a good start. I felt like we came out a little nervous in doubles," said Mark Beckham, U of L head coach. "But we were able to close out matches when we needed to in the end."

The No. 1 doubles team of Bianca Gorbea and Natalia Baez handled Heather Butt and Lauren Delaney easily, posting a 8-4 score. Lauren Imre and Amelia Harris cruised to an 8-4 win over Alix Lakow and Madeilinne Antero at No. 3. The going was not quite as smooth at No. 2 where Lindsey Jones and Jo-Ann Van Aerde had to hold off Meg Rozboril and Alexandra Rydberg, who took them to the tiebreaker in a comeback before the Cards prevailed 8-7 (7-1)

The Cardinals settled down and rolled over the Eagles in singles, winning all six matches. Lindsey Jones posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win over Meg Rozboril at No. 3 to set the tone. Natalia Baez dispatched Alexandra Rydberg 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Newcomer Sarah Miller, who just joined the Cardinals last week, opened her career with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lauren Delaney. Fellow freshman Amelia Harris won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6, beating Alix Lakow. Lauren Imre outlasted Madeilinne Antero 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 and Natalia Baez closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Alexandra Rydberg at the No. 4 spot.

"In singles, that was the level of play I expected from my team," said Beckham.

The Cardinals will host nationally ranked Michigan State Sunday at 10 a.m. in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
