Louisville, Ky. - In what was their first real game action of fall camp, the University of Louisville football team went through a 75-play scrimmage under the lights at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Senior quarterback Hunter Cantwell had a solid night in the pocket. While statistics weren't released to the public, the 6-5 senior threw four touchdown passes to junior Scott Long. Senior Chris Vaughn also recorded a touchdown pass from Cantwell.
The Cardinals defense was very stingy against the run. Junior Jon Dempsey and sophomore Antwon Canady made tackles in the backfield, while senior Earl Heyman was also very active. Senior cornerback Woodny Turenne was tested quite a few times but stood in there and made play after play.
Freshman Chris Philpott made a 29-yard field goal and later was short from 53-yards.
"Overall good effort but a lot of things we've got to get fixed," Steve Kragthorpe said. "There's a lot of little mistakes when you throw them out here and all those guys have to be playing with complete, complete precision, being synchronized every snap of the ball. For the most part, the effort was excellent we just got a lot of execution things we need to clean up.
"That's what I talked to the team about after the scrimmage," said head coach Stewe Kragthorpe. "We're going to make some mistakes particularly this point in time during training camp. What you can't do is repeat those mistakes. You've got to get them fixed. And we talked to the players about communication. They've got to be able to fix some of those things on the field themselves before we can get the off on the sidelines and the way they do that is talk with each other out there."
The team watched the film of the scrimmage on Friday morning and will practice at 6:45 p.m.
