Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville football team has signed linebacker Antwon Canady from Hutchinson Community College to a financial aid agreement, announced head coach Steve Kragthorpe.
Canady, who stands at 6-1, 236 pounds, comes to Louisville after playing one season at Hutchinson Community College where he earned All-Conference accolades last year.
"I started talking to them in high school. I also talked to Arkansas and Texas Tech, but Louisville was really the school I wanted to go to," said Canady.
Canady, who originally hails from Swainsboro, Ga., was the Blue Dragons' leading tackler in 2007 with 106 tackles, including 52 solo stops. He was the Jayhawk Conference leader in tackles per game at 11.8 tackles per game, third in the league in tackles for loss (17.5) and ninth in quarterback sacks (7).
In nine games, Canady had double-figure tackles in seven games, including a career-high 15 stops three times against Coffeyville, Dodge City and Butler.
"Antwon has the ability to come in and provide us with immediate depth and at the same time have three years of eligibility remaining," said Kragthorpe. "We're excited that Antwon has chosen to become a member of the Cardinal program."
