The University of Louisville women's tennis team came up just short as the Cardinals fell 4-3 to visiting Houston Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals started the match with authority, sweeping all three doubles matches led by the No. 1 pair of Natalia Baez and Bianca Gorbea taking their match 8-4.
"This was a disappointing loss, but I almost think we were due for this to happen," said U of L head coach Mark Beckham. "We have been on the winning side of some very close matches lately, today our lucky ran out."
The Cardinals fell at No. 1 singles when Lauren Imre lost in three sets to Lucy Forward 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. The Cardinals picked up points from Bianca Gorbea at No. 3 who won handily over Neila Starratt. Robyn White's win at No. 5 over Vicky Simpson (6-3, 6-3) tied the match leaving the outcome up to No. 2 singles player Lindsey Jones who battled Leila Salek to three sets before falling 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
The Cardinals are back in action Sunday at 10 a.m. when they take on the University of South Alabama at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
