Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
(Opening Statement) "We played a terrific first half and we feed off of good execution offensively. We had a lot of turnovers and steals. Your pressures good but obviously you can feed off your offense. We did a good job in the second half trying to get everybody playing time. There are good basketball teams that have a tough half and get embarrassed. I am real pleased we still have a long way to go but overall pleased with our performance."
(On halftime lead) "We just want to work on execution, play it 0-0. We realize we're going to have a very tough game next game and we're going to have to execute to win the game."
(On Louisville's rebounding) "Earl (Clark) and Twill have been doing a very good job at defensive rebounding but they haven't been doing a good enough job offensive rebounding. When you have a horrific night the only thing you can rely on is offensive rebounding and outside of Samardo (Samuels) getting a few cheap offensive rebounds at the end of the game we didn't do a good job. There is no excuse with Earl's and Twill's athleticism not to offensive rebound. We're going to send Twill to the glass more."
(On Louisville's full court pressure) "We did a very good job in the first half Indiana State is not as bad as that, we did it with our pressure both in the half court as well as the full court. We took them out of what they wanted to do. They're a better basketball team than that. They played Depaul to the wire, they played Arkansas State to the wire, it's tough when you open up 5-0."
(On Indiana State's zone defense) "We knew they were going to play zone we've been practicing our zone execution all week. For a while everyone is going to take film from the Western Kentucky game. We're a good shooting team when we take good shots. We think we're average to poor when we take challenged shots. We took a lot of challenged shots in that game and got what we deserved."
(On Marques Maybin) "He's hasn't gotten out and around to much, he's just starting to do that now. He seems like a terrific young man and we're real proud to have this in his name."
(On Louisville's free throw shooting) "We are spending more time on free throw shooting. In the first half it was more the wrongs guys on the line. There is no reason for Andre McGee or Jerry Smith to miss. Terrence Jennings is not a good foul shooter. Earl Clark should not go 4-7 and Jerry Smith should not go 0-2. That's the disappointing thing. It is a concern when you get in close ball games, you have to make it. This week we worked very hard on our execution, we're working very hard on our defense, and our intensity. We're going to continue to work on our free throw shooting. We're putting more time than we ever have before and we'll continue to do so."
Indiana State Head Coach Kevin McKenna
"We just got beat by a really good athletic team. That puts a lot of pressure on you and we didn't respond very well. We had a lot of turnovers and a lot of weak passes. We threw the ball and handled the ball without strength against an athletic and pressing team."
"The speed of the game and the pace of the game was a lot faster than anything we have seen this year. They drove by us a few times. I thought we played on our heels a lot and we played without confidence. They stretched it early and turned up the heat and got more aggressive. That is what good pressing teams do, they took advantage of good opportunities."
"It is interesting because all week long I feel like I am on the right track and that is exactly what I told our players. In the last couple of weeks you earn what you get and you get what you deserve. And then you play a team like Louisville, I knew these guys would be fired up. We had a tough game against Arkansas State where we lost by two and we tried to get our guys to do certain things this week and for some reason we weren't able to execute."
"This is an embarrassing loss. There is no question about it. Louisville is a good team and a well coached team and plays at a different speed then we are use to. We just weren't able to adjust to it. We are going to find out something about our character in tomorrow and Monday's games. We are going to find out where we are at from a competitive standpoint. Then we will find out what we are made of. And when you are embarrassed like that and knocked to the ground, you either stand up brush yourself off and keep playing or go away hide in a corner. We are going to come to the game tomorrow and we are going to compete."
