Freshman Samardo Samuels recorded his first career double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He recorded a career-best 10 rebounds today, which bests his previous high of eight against Western Kenkucky on 11/30/08. Samuels also recorded double-digit points for the seventh straight game to open his career.
The Cardinals moved to 6-0 on the season at home in Freedom Hall.
Sophomore Preston Knowles doubled his previous career-high for points with 21. Knowles knocked down 8-of-11 from the floor and a career-best 4-of-5 from behind the arc. He bested his previous high of 10 points, which he did three times in his career. Knowles had 18 of his 21 points in the second half.
The Cardinals recorded 12 steals in the game, marking the fifth time this year that the Cardinals recorded eight or more steals in a game. U of L entered the game ranked 19th nationally in steals, averaging 9.3 steals per game.
Trailing 54-49 with 13:15 to play in the second half, the Cardinals went on a 17-2 run to go ahead to stay.
Austin Peay connected on 9-of-19 three-point field goals, becoming the first team to make more than five trifectas in a game.
U of L is 103-5 over the last nine seasons when scoring more than 80 points in a game, including 76-5 under head coach Rick Pitino.
Senior Terrance Williams scored a season-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc.
