With the win over South Alabama, the Cardinals are 10-1 all-time in the Billy Minardi Classic. The tournament originated in 2002 to honor the memory of Billy Minardi, brother-in-law to head coach Rick Pitino.
Freshman Samardo Samuels was named to the All-Tournament Team after having an outstanding tournament, averaging 21.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Samuels was 17-of-22 (77.3 percent) from the floor in the two games.
Samuels recorded a career-high, scoring 24 points on 9-of-10 from the floor. He tallied 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor in his first collegiate game on Saturday.
The Cardinals held South Alabama to 36.0 shooting from the field. Louisville held both opponents in the tournament to less than 40.0 percent shooting from the floor. In a 79-41 win over Morehead State on Saturday, Louisville held the Eagles to just 29.0 percent from the field.
The Cardinals forced the Jaguars into a season-high 24 turnovers.
The Cardinals tallied 81 points in the win over South Alabama and are 100-5 over the last nine seasons when scoring 80 or more points and are 73-5 under head coach Rick Pitino.
Senior Terrance Williams was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to a pair of victories. Williams averaged 7.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists. In the win over South Alabama, Williams scored 12 points and added seven rebounds and assists.
The Cardinals dished out 23 assists on 31 made field goals in the win over South Alabama. The Cardinals also had 21 assists in the win over Morehead State on Saturday.
The Cardinals dished only committed nine turnovers in both of their wins in the Billy Minardi Classic.
