Louisville Notes
- U of L won its 20th straight game at home, the longest winning streak in school history and the second longest in the nation (behind USC).
- Sophomore running back Anthony Allen carried 35 times for school-record 275 yards, both career highs and his first rushing effort over 100 yards. It broke the previous 29-year-old record of 269 yards by Nathan Poole against Wichita State on Nov. 4, 1978. It was the most rushes for a Cardinal since Michael Bush rushed 37 times for 159 yards against West Virginia on Oct. 15, 2005. It was the first time a U of L player rushed for over 200 yards since Michael Bush had 204 yards against Florida Atlantic on Oct. 1, 2005. Allen scored two touchdowns, the fifth time in his career that he scored two or more touchdowns.
- Senior quarterback Brian Brohm threw for a career high 401 yards on 25-of-39 passing (previous high: 389 yards at USF, 9/24/05). It marked the 13th 300-yard passing game of his career, which extends his BIG EAST all-time record. Louisville is 12-1 when Brohm throws for 300 or more yards. With a career-high matching five touchdowns today, has throw four or more TD passes on six occasions in his career, a feat he has accomplished in four of the last five games. He has had two or more touchdowns in a game 12 times in and has tossed as many as three scores six times.
- Tonight marked the second time in Louisville history that the Cardinals produced three 100-yard receivers in a single game. Against Tulane on Oct. 17, 1998, the trio of Lavell Boyd (146 yards), Arnold Jackson (132) and Charles Sheffield (103) also accomplished that feat for the Cardinals.
- Junior WR Mario Urrutia scored on a 71-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. It's the third touchdown reception of 70 or more yards in his career. Urrutia (7 catches, 142 yards) produced his eighth 100-yard receiving game of his career and matched his career high in receptions and TDs (2). Urrutia and senior WR Harry Douglas (8 catches, 100 yards) both extended their consecutive reception streaks to 17 games. TE Gary Barnidge recorded a career high 126 yards on four receptions and matched his career best with two TDs.
- The combined total offense for both teams of 1,284 yards was the third highest in BIG EAST history. Louisville has produced over 650 yards in total offense in both of its games this season.
- The Cardinals scored on the first play of the game when Brian Brohm hit tight end Gary Barnidge for an 81-yard reception. It was the second straight game that the Cardinals scored on their first play and the first time in school history that the Cardinals scored on the first play in consecutive games. It was Brohm and Barnidge's career long.
- Junior cornerback Rod Council recorded his second career interception in the second quarter.
- Coupled with tonight's 58 points and 73 scored against Murray State, the combined 131 mark the most points ever scored in back-to-back U of L games (previous high: 128 in a pair of games in 1926). Louisville scored 28 first quarter points for the second straight game.
- The crowd of 40,882 was the second sellout in as many games for the Cardinals this season and the 15th straight sellout in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
- Flags were set at half-staff in honor of Staff Seargent Delmar White of Lexington, Ky., who was killed by an improvised explosive device on Sept. 2 in Bagdad, Iraq. White was assigned to Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 138th Field Artillery, based in Carlisle. White deployed with his unit in August of this year in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
