LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville football head coach Steve Kragthorpe, seniors Brian Brohm and Harry Douglas and juniors Eric Wood and Earl Heyman met with members of the media on Monday to preview the upcoming 2007 season-opener against Murray State. The Cards and Racers will meet on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and the game will be televised nationally by ESPNU.
Kragthorpe takes over the program after Bobby Petrino left for the Atlanta Falcons. Kragthorpe spent four seasons at Tulsa where he guided the Golden Hurricane to a 29-21 record and three bowl games. Kragthorpe was named the 20th head coach at Louisville at Jan. 9. The Cardinals finished 2006 at 12-1, including a 24-13 win over Wake Forest at the 2007 FedEx Orange Bowl. Louisville also won its first BIG EAST title with a 6-1 mark and earned the league's BIG EAST BCS berth.
Cards Enter Season Ranked 10th, 11th in National Polls: UofL enters the 2007 season-opener against Murray State ranked 10th in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and 11th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The No. 10 ranking is the highest preseason ranking in school history. The Cards closed last season ranked sixth in the AP Poll and seventh in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
