LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ellis Myles, starting center on the University of Louisville's 2005 NCAA Final Four team, will continue in a full-time capacity with the Cardinal men's basketball staff as assistant strength coach.
"Ellis has a desire to be a full-time assistant coach some day," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "We will certainly groom him with that in mind. He'll start his journey as an assistant strength coach and work his way up the ladder. Ellis was a dedicated basketball player, understands our system and there's no doubt in my mind that he'll make an outstanding coach sometime down the road."
Myles initially joined the U of L staff on a temporary basis on Jan. 30 while in Louisville rehabbing a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee, which he suffered while playing professional basketball in Israel. After earning a bachelor's degree in sociology at U of L in 2005, he also played pro basketball in Belgium and Italy.
Myles, who hails from Compton, Ca., averaged 10.4 points and 9.2 rebounds as a senior in 2005-06 as the Cardinals went 33-5 and reached the NCAA Final Four. He produced one of only two triple-doubles in U of L history when he totalled 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an 85-61 victory over TCU in the Conference USA Tournament semifinals (3/10/05).
A tri-captain for the Cardinals as a senior, Myles is one of only five players in U of L history to score over 1,000 career points and grab over 950 career rebounds. He totalled 1,045 points and 998 rebounds, sixth highest for the Cardinals. He had 41 career double-digit rebounding efforts, including 19 as a senior, and had 20 career double-doubles.
