The No. 71-ranked University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 3 Notre Dame Friday afternoon in South Bend. Notre Dame improves to 5-1 with the Cardinals posting a 2-5 mark.
"We played very well today at Notre Dame," said Greg Davis, U of L head coach. "Natalie Laszkowski had a big, big win at No. 2. This was a tough match against a deep, talented team that was coming off making the finals at the Indoor Nationals last week."
U of L scored its point at No. 2 singles when Laszkowski battled back to upset No. 31-ranked Colleen Rielley. Laszkowski dropped the opening set 6-2, but came back with a 6-4 victory in the second set and then took the match with a 1-0 (10-8) victory in the third set.
Another highlight came when the No. 2 team of Bianca Gorbea and Jo-Ann Van Aerde took the Notre Dame doubles team of Cosmina Ciobanu and Kali Krisik to task . Ciobanu and Krisik took a 5-3 lead but the Louisville pair came back with a break of their own, tying the match, 5-5. Back on serve, Gorbea and Van Aerde pushed the advantage to 6-5, before falling 8-6.
