LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville senior center David Padgett has been selected as one of the 30 initial candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for the 2007-08 basketball season.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student athletes in four areas: classroom, community, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards that a senior season can bring. Ten finalists will be selected in early February and the winner will be announced by Dick Enberg on CBS during the Final Four.
Padgett is currently sidelined with a broken right kneecap but is hopeful to return to action this season. A unanimous selection for the Cardinals' team captain among teammates and coaches, Padgett was a preseason All-BIG EAST Conference selection and is among the top 50 players on the preseason watch list for the Naismith Trophy. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science in the spring and is currently taking graduate classes. Last season, Padgett averaged 9.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and blocked 50 shots in earning All-BIG EAST Conference second team honors. He was averaging 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Cards' starter in the middle the first two outings this season.
