
Women's Basketball Defeats Coppin State 69-51

Baltimore, Md. - The Louisville (9-2) women's basketball defeated Coppin State (4-8) 69-51 in their fourth consecutive road game. Angel McCoughtry finished with her second consecutive double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds. McCoughtry also added four blocks and five steals. Candyce Bingham finished with 15 points while Shalamar Oakley led Coppin State with 15 points.
The game was close but the Cardinals used several runs in the first half to take control of the game. A three-point play by Danielle Anders got the Eagles within two with 13:29 remaining. Louisville then went on a 5-0 run for a 17-9 lead at the 9:11 mark. Tanezia Harden got the Eagles within six but a Brandie Radde 3-pointer sparked an 8-0 run by the Cardinals to go up 14 at the five minute mark.
Coppin State's Jennifer Martin scored on a layup to stop the run, but the Cardinals went on another 6-2 run to build a 31-15 lead with 3:27 left in the first half. Both teams traded baskets in the final minutes and the Cardinals held a 40-22 lead at the break.
The second half started like the first half with both teams trading baskets. McCoughtry scored on a jumper to give Louisville their biggest lead of the game at 52-30 with 14:41 remaining. The Eagles responded with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 17. The Cardinals then went on a 4-0 run to push the lead to 56-35 with 11:38 remaining.
Coppin State went on 10-1 run to cut the lead to 12 with just under eight minutes remaining. Louisville responded again with an 8-0 run to take a 65-45 lead with 4:19 remaining, putting the game out of reach for the Eagles.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 49.1 percent from the field while the Eagles shot 31.9 percent. Louisville shot 81.8 percent from the free throw line while Coppin State shot 75 percent. The Cardinals held a slight 38-37 rebounding edge.
Louisville will return to action on Dec. 28 as they host Mercer in Freedom Hall at 7:00 p.m.
