
Volleyball Sweeps UConn to Stay Undefeated in BIG EAST

Lecia Brown had six kills and six blocks to lead the Cardinals to a 30-25, 30-15, 30-16 sweep over UConn in BIG EAST volleyball action Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Arena.
U of L emerges from the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record in the BIG EAST and improves its overall record to 11-4. UConn drops to 11-7 and 2-4 in the league. U of L, the No. 2-ranked blocking school in the nation, outblocked the Huskies 20-2 and outhit them .392 to .063. The Cardinals landed seven aces, led by Lindsey Mango's career high four.
"You always worry about a let-down after a big win like we had on Saturday, but we focused and didn't let them into any kind of rhythm. Our serving was good and our blocking was the key to the win."
In the first game, Jana Matiasovska led U of L with five kills as the team hit .286 to UConn's .111. The Huskies were outblocked 6-2. The Cards were up 26-20 and withstood a late rally by UConn for the 30-25 win.
In the second game, Lindsey Mango served for nine straight points to put the Cardinals up 25-9 as the Cards cruised to an easy 30-15 win. The Cardinals added seven more blocks and four aces to help the cause.
The Cardinals built a 12-point lead midway through the final game when they went up 22-10 and then pushed through for the 30-16 win.
U of L had a balanced attack with three players notching eight kills. Tatyana Kolesnikova had eight and two blocks from off the bench. Jana Matiasovska had eight and an ace and Svetlana Dukule had eight and three solo blocks for U of L. Lindsey Mango had 15 digs and four aces. UConn was led by Sade Chambers' 17 kills.
