Louisville Notes
- Wide receivers Patrick Carter (9 receptions, 154 yards, 1 TD) and Scott Long (6 receptions, 79 yards) each produced career highs in receptions and yards. TE Gary Barnidge had a career-high 8 receptions for 93 yards, the fourth-highest yardage total of his career. It was Carter's first career 100-yard receiving game and the seventh for a U of L receiver this season. Carter had 10 career receptions entering the game. Louisville played without its top two receivers in Harry Douglas and Mario Urrutia, who were both unavailable due to injuries. Douglas is second nationally in receiving yards per game (169.8).
- Senior quarterback Brian Brohm completed 39-of-58 passes for 467 yards, the second highest totals of his career for each. It was the eighth time in the last nine games he has thrown for over 300 yards and the 16th time in his career. Eight U of L receivers had multiple receptions from Brohm.
- Brohm threw a touchdown pass for the 22nd time in 27 career starts. Brohm has thrown for four or more touchdowns on seven occasions, as he did today. He has thrown two or more touchdowns in a game on 15 occasions and has tossed as many as three scores eight times. He has 20 touchdowns on the season and 61 in his career.
- Sophomore wide receiver Trent Guy recorded his first career touchdown reception on an 11-yd pass from Brian Brohm in the second quarter. Guy had a career-best 6 receptions for 69 yards.
- Redshirt freshman L.D. Scott recorded his first career start for the Cardinals at defensive end.
- The Cardinals gained more yardage on their first two possessions of the second half (160) than they did in the entire first half (99 yards).
- Freshman Bilal Powell tallied his first career carry for the Cardinals in the first quarter.
- The Cardinals produced 26 yards on the ground against Utah. The last time a U of L team rushed for fewer than 60 yards was when the Cardinals gained 57 yards against Memphis on Nov. 15, 2003.
- The Cardinals allowed 582 yards to Utah, the most by a U of L opponent since Memphis amassed 603 vs. Louisville on Nov. 4, 2004.
- Louisville committed just one penalty in the game after averaging nearly nine in its first five outings.
- The crowd of 40,894 was the fourth sellout in as many games for the Cardinals this season and the 17th straight sellout in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals lost back-to-back games at home for the first time since the 1999 season when the Cardinals lost games to Illinois and Oklahoma on back-to-back weeks.
- U of L recognized a moment of silence pregame for Ron Steiner, the founder and former editor of the Louisville SportsReport who passed away Thursday morning.
Utah Notes
- Utah is now 6-0 all-time against the BIG EAST
- Tonight is the last non-conference game for Utah this season. It finished the non-conference portion of its slate 3-1.
- The Utes are now 18-8 when playing on Friday.
- Utah had 582 yards of total offense, the most by the team yet this season. That was buoyed by season-highs of 260 yards rushing and 322 yards passing.
- Utah's defense held Louisville to -7 yards rushing in the first half. It limited the Cardinals to just 26 yards rushing for the game, the lowest total for a Utah opponent this season.
- Utah's first scoring drive of the game was a season-long 97 yards. It was nine plays, ending on a seven-yard pass from Brian Johnson to Bradon Godfrey.
- The Utes had 29 first downs today, more than in any other game this year. Their previous season high was 19 against UCLA.
- Louie Sakoda made a 46-yard field goal in the last two minutes of play. He has made his last eight attempts, and he is 8-for-9 on the season.
- Darrell Mack had his third 100-yard rushing game of the year tonight, recording a career-high 163 yards on 32 touches. The 30 carries is also a career high for Mack.
- Utah's Louie Sakoda missed the first PAT of his career tonight. He made 53 straight heading into tonight's contest. After today's miss, he is now 58-of-59 all-time.
- Tight end Colt Sampson made his first catch of the year this evening. He missed the first four games due to injury, returning to the lineup last week against Utah State.
- Quarterback Brian Johnson had a season-high 24 completions tonight, and he turned in the fifth 300-yard passing game of his career. He was 24-for-31 with 312 yards.
- Freshman QB Corbin Louks scored the first rushing touchdown of his career in the second quarter.
- Elijah Wesson made the first rushes of his career tonight. He had three for 25 yards.
- Quarterback Brian Johnson had the tam's longest rushing touchdown of the season. He had a 25-yard rushing score in the third, and it's his first rushing TD since 2005.
