Louisville Head Coach Steve Kragthorpe
"College football is crazy isn't it? You never know what'll happen. Mike Mallory, our secondary coach talks about it all the time. It's a 100-yard field, and that was certainly the case today. I'm glad it wasn't 99. Our defense found a way to come up and make a play at the end of the game. We talked about it when they were reviewing the call. If it was a touchdown, we were going to block the PAT and win the game. And if it wasn't a touchdown, we were going to find a way to stop them, hold them out of the endzone. We didn't even talk about turnovers, so that was good that we got that. That was a big play by our defense."
"Again, I am just proud of our guys. I know they are happy to win and certainly it's always good to win. I am proud of the way the guys hung in there. I just want to thank the fans for coming out today. I appreciate it. I appreciate them coming out and supporting these guys because they deserve it."
"We have come up a little short sometimes, but there is nobody that wants to win more than the guys in that locker room. They've worked hard, they had a good week of practice, and they continue to presevere. Block out the negative, accentuate the positive and just go out there and be rewarded with the fruits of their labor today."
(on the final U of L TD drive) "For us it was a big drive, there's no doubt about it. We made some plays running the football and I thought that Charlie did a good job of mixing in the run and the pass. Scott Kuhn makes a big play to take us down there and then again in a situation getting down there. If it's a touchdown great; if not we get a chance to put it in the endzone at that point of time. I was just really glad at the way our guys responded. That's a drive where we have to take it all the way down the field, 70 yards is what I think it ended up being to win the football game."
"They ran the draw three times and almost had it twice. They were in a four wide and we go to a six man box and we can knock down the run. But you have to give them credit; they made some plays. Again we were just a whisper away from tackling him a couple of times and we just missed him. He does a good job of making people miss him."
"I think we are playing better defense. We are tackling better and getting more pressure on the passer. We knew they were going to play the I formation. It was important for us to stop the run and I think we did a pretty good job of that today."
"We are a little chipped up and now it gives us 12 days to get a few extra days before we go to Morgantown. It gives us a couple of extra days to evaluate ourselves. It gets us closer to full strength. We have not been full strength since spring practice. There are still some things that we want to correct."
Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm
"We knew we had to go down and score. It started off a little shaky in the beginning. Anthony kinda of fell down while trying to grab the ball. The holding penalty kinda got us kick started. We ran the ball well, Kuhn got open, just wide open then Brock Bolen did a great job of finishing up the drive."
"We moved the ball pretty well, we were just hurting ourselves a little bit. We didn't move the ball the last drive. We just went down there and scored and we knew the game was in our hands. In that weird drive we just backed ourselves up."
"It feels good. There were a few times that we had a drive like that last drive and the defense held up this time. It was a great drive for offense and to know that we needed to win the game and to go in and kick it in gear."
(on the play of the defense) "I thought the defense played really well the first three and a half quarters. They shut them down pretty well, with the exception of the one touchdown on the trick play interception. The defense was shutting them down but towards the end, they were getting some plays on us. Overall they played well."
Louisville fullback Brock Bolen
(on the last drive) "It was just a must-score situation to win the game. With five or six minutes left in the game and the scored tied, you have to score to win the game. We needed to hold on to the ball and make sure we knew our assignments."
(on the review of the final drive) "I think I was in the first time. I was glad to get the ball back. I have a tradition going all the way back to fourth grade to score a touchdown for my dad's birthday. For his birthday, I always promise him a touchdown and I got him one today, so that was good. Not in college, it was always in high school and pee wee."
"You can't really say what happened, a couple of guys make a mistake or maybe a bad play and we just came together as a team and made a great play. With the kind of offense that we have and the kind of quarterback we have in Brohm, we knew that if we had a minute and 30 seconds, we wanted to score and win the game, maybe give Carmody a chance to kick the game-winner. The best games are the game you win, I don't care if you get one carry or 50 carries."
Pittsburgh QB Pat Bostick
(On Pat growing up on the last drive to tie the score) "We don't have much to show for it. We didn't make the play."
(On the TD getting called back) "You have to respond, take one play at a time. You can t really think about it."
(On the last offensive play - fumble) "I didn't get it to him."
Pittsburgh RB LeSean McCoy
(On the last offensive play - fumble) "It wasn't all on Pat, I didn't secure the ball well enough. I was trying to read the defense, but you have to secure the ball first. Things like that happen."
(On getting loose in the 4th quarter) "We started opening up our offense a little bit. I felt like they started getting a little tired and we just started busting them up."
Pittsburgh Coach Dave Wannstedt
"We felt like eventually we could run the ball. We were trying to use the clock. They're scoring 40 points a game and 500 yards of offense. Our defense was playing their guts out. Part of mindset was trying to move the ball and play keep away a little bit and once we got that confidence going. In the second half and started adjusting on defense a little better that was our thinking. We turned the ball over.
"They stuffed us on the run and covered us on the pass. Offensively we struggled until the fourth quarter. Our defense played outstanding and gave us a chance to win the game.
(On the play of the true freshmen) "They'll bounce back they're both true freshman. We started (Maurice) Williams at wide out. We started three freshmen on offense that is not an easy deal. I think they did a great job, every week getting better. We came up short I know that. I'm proud of this football team and they will work this week and we will come out next week and make improvements and keep moving forward."
