LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville football head coach Steve Kragthorpe, junior running back Brock Bolen and redshirt freshman defensive end Rodney Gnat met with members of the media on Monday to review last week's 29-10 win at North Carolina State and preview this week's home game against Utah. The Cards and Utes will meet on Friday at 8 p.m. ET at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
The Cardinals, who had their 20-game home winning streak snapped against Syracuse on Sept. 22, will look to avoid losing back-to-back home games for the first time since 1999. Louisville (3-2) returned to its winning ways last Saturday with an all-around 29-10 win at NC State. The U of L defense had its best performance of the season, forcing five turnovers, including three fumbles and limited the Wolfpack to just 85 yards on the ground.
The Cardinal offense wasn't sharp, but still managed 498 yards of total offense, including 247 on the ground. Junior Brock Bolen returned to action and rushed for a career-high 112 yards on 18 carries, while Anthony Allen compiled 85 yards and a score on 19 carries. Senior quarterback Brian Brohm completed 20-of-33 throws for 251 yards and a touchdown.
Utah enters the game at 2-3 overall following a 34-18 win over Utah State on Saturday in Salt Lake City. The Utes have won two of their last three games overall, including a 44-6 home win over UCLA on Sept. 15.
The Series - U of L and Utah
This will be the third meeting between these two schools with Utah holding a 2-0 series advantage. The Utes are 1-0 in Louisville, defeating the Cardinals, 27-21 in 1997. The other meeting was a 45-22 win by Utah in 1998.
Cards vs. Mountain West Conference
The Cardinals are 4-10 all-time against current teams in the Mountain West Conference. The Cardinals are 0-2 against Utah, 1-2 against Colorado State and 1-3 versus TCU and Wyoming. The only school the Cardinals have a winning record against is BYU, who lost to Louisville in the 2001 Liberty Bowl. TCU and Louisville were former members of the C-USA.
