BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A pair of freshmen women, Andrea Sabbatine and Elisabeth Slettum earned runner-up finishes on Saturday to lead the University of Louisville track and field team on the final day of competition at Indiana University's Gladstein Invitational.
Sabbatine, from Georgetown, Ky., finished second in a field of 26 entries in the pole vault clearing a height of 11 feet, 5.75 inches to match a career high in the event. Slettum, from Stavanger, Norway, was second in a field of 56 runners in the 200m with a time of 24.53 seconds, the fourth best time in school history.
On Friday, UofL junior Wesley Korir won the men's 3000m run while three other Cardinal athletes earned runner up finishes on the first day of competition at IU. Senior Arthur Turland had a second-place finish in the weight throw, while on the women's side, junior ZeNai Savage and freshman Tarah McKay led the way with runner-up finishes in the shot put and 3000m run respectively.
Up next, the Cardinals will compete at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Feb. 2-3 in South Bend, Ind.
