Louisville, Ky. - The first day of closed practices was weird. It was great having all the fans out at practice, but you could tell the change in the intensity of practice. It was the first full day of pads so the team got to hit and tackle for the first time during camp.
During the perimeter drill, the running game broke a couple of long runs by Kolby Smith and Michael Bush. It looked like the offensive line was getting a good push off the ball and really opening some holes for the backs. Michael Bush looks to be in the best shape of his career. He looks solid and seems to be a little faster. He made a couple of outstanding catches out of the backfield.
Coach Petrino did a lot of 1 vs. 2 and 2 vs. 1 on Monday. With about 45 minutes left in practice, the rain started to come down pretty hard and disrupted practice. It was good for the team to get some work in the rain and the Cardinals responded well to it. After about a two-hour and 20 minute practice, coach Petrino let the younger kids stay out and get some work while the vets went inside.
It was the coolest day of the summer which the players really enjoyed. Tomorrow is the first day of double sessions so they'll be much more to report.
