Louisville, Ky. - Head coach Bobby Petrino re-arranged the practice schedule on Friday so the Cardinals to do some goodwill in the Louisville community.
The Cardinals were scheduled for their second two-a-day practice on Friday, but coach said the team would practice just one today and then twice on Saturday.
Friday's practice was just about two hours, a little shorter than usual. The team came out in just shoulder pads and helmets and conducted their workout.
The practice plan was to do a lot of individual work and conclude with team periods. The offense wasn't as crisp as Petrino would like, but the offense worked through its problems and got better as it went on. The defense worked hard to correct mistakes they made in the scrimmage and looked like they made progress from Thursday.
After practice, the team broke for lunch at the U-Club. Chicken parm and potatoes were on the menu.
The squad met at 1:15 p.m. to board the buses to go unload all the furniture at the Inn at Jewish Hospital. I guess hotel closed and they were giving all the furniture to the Home of the Innoncents. So coach Petrino said the team would help load the stuff in trucks and take it to the Home.
It was great to see all the players and coaches unload the furniture for this great cause. Beds, tables, chairs and lamps were all removed and transported to the Home of the Innoncents.
You could see the players really believed in this cause and the Home was very appreciative. I had a bunch of players ask if they could go see the kids, but time didn't allow it.
It was a very productive day and the players definitely felt like they helped and donated to a great cause.
The team will practice twice on Saturday and likely take off Sunday.
