The University of Louisville women's tennis team notched its second win of the weekend with a 6-1 win over Minnesota Sunday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals took the doubles point and then won singles matches No. 2 through No. 6 for the win.
"I think we had a great weekend with the wins against nationally ranked South Alabama and then today against Minnesota," said Greg Davis, U of L head coach. "We are beginning to show maturity which is good because we have a tremendous road ahead of us."
Freshman Natalia Baez and Bianca Gorbea handled Mariana Spilca and Marina Bugaenco 8-1 at No. 2. Suzanna Gracanin and Natalie Laszkowski took the No. 3 doubles match 8-2 over Danielle Mousseau and Shelby Rohrer.
In singles, U of L struggled in the top two positions with Maria Klokotzky suffering a rare loss, falling 1-6, 6-1 and then losing the tiebreaker 12-10. At No. 2, Gorbea had her hands full with Ida Malberg before beating her 6-7, 7-5, 10-6. The rest of the field fell easily with Robyn White, Gracanin and Laszkowski all winning 6-1, 6-0 at No.3-5. Baez took the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-1.
The Cardinals improve to 13-3 on the year. Ahead for the Cardinals Illinois, Auburn and Indiana.
"We have three very different opponents ahead of us in the next three matches," said Davis. This is a very tough stretch of schedule. Our next five days of practice are crucial for our next three matches."
