LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following a successful week of training and competition in Arizona, the University of Louisville men's and women's track and field team will next compete at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University on Friday and Saturday at Paul Derr Track in Raleigh, N.C.
The highly competitive, two-day meet on the N.C. State campus is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET on Friday and continue at 10 a.m. ET Saturday.
"This will be my first experience at the Raleigh Relays and the first for our program in the recent past," said U of L head coach Ron Mann. "We're excited about the opportunity to compete at North Carolina State and we're looking forward to having more conference and regional qualifiers. The outdoor season is quickly coming together for us with 44 qualifying marks for the BIG EAST Championships, so we're happy with our progress right now."
The Cards enter the Raleigh Relays after earning three event titles, five NCAA Mideast qualifying marks and setting three school records at last weekend's Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
Leading the way for Cards was freshman Tony Belt with a school record and NCAA regional qualifying mark of 7 feet, 3.25 inches to win the men's high jump. Junior Emily Turland had a school record and NCAA qualifying mark of 190-10 in the hammer and a second-place finish overall.
Joining Belt and Turland with regional qualifying marks was freshman Andre Black in the triple jump and juniors Brandon Cook and Arthur Turland in the discus. Freshman Cory Thorne added the third and final school record on the day for the Cards with a time of 9:08.03 in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and a second-place finish overall.
Following the Raleigh Relays, the Cards will compete at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati on April 1.
