LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino and freshman forward Terrence Williams met with members of the media on Thursday to preview the Cardinals' first round NIT game against Delaware State on Friday at Freedom Hall. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. ET and will be televised locally by WDRB.
The Cards are 18-12 overall and enter the game following a 61-56 first round loss to Pittsburgh on March 8 in the BIG EAST Tournament in New York. Delaware State is 21-13 overall after winning the their second straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title with a 16-2 league record. The Hornets enter the game after earning a 58-53 win at Northern Arizona in the opening round of NIT play on Tuesday.
The winner of Friday's game will advance to face Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson on Monday, March 20 in the second round of the NIT. If the Cards advance, they are scheduled to host Clemson for a 7 p.m. ET tip off at Freedom Hall and the game will be televised locally by WFTE. If U of L advances beyond Monday's game and into the NIT quarterfinals, that game will be played on Wednesday, March 22 at Freedom Hall with the winner advancing to Madison Square Garden for the NIT semifinals on March 28.
