Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"That is an awful way to make a living. It was a great game with two teams playing their hearts out .We had to play great defense because we made our shots early and we didn't make them late. But we played defense and we rebounded. T-Will had 13, Juan got 10 and Taquan got nine, Chad getting eight. Just a great performance on the glass and I am really proud of our guys."
"Both teams are cut from same cloth in terms of preparation. We know every move each other is going to make. Marquette-Louisville's always been that way. Always played each other tough it was a great battle."
"We need to go to New York, it's been our goal. We weren't about to pack it in, we play hard."
"Right now we're not on the bubble, but I think we are starting to form a blister, that is forming a bubble. Our guys are playing with tremendous heart and real character."
"I still agree it's a good move with little time on the clock even if no one does it. We're a terrible block-out team. They are awesome block out on free throws. Against Tennessee, that left a bad taste in my mouth and makes me hesitate to do it."
"They had to foul. I thought it would be an intentional foul. He (the official) pointed. I don't know if it was intentional or not but the guy grabbed his shirt and pulled him down. He didn't see it, he couldn't call it. The other two guys behind couldn't see it to back him up. It really wasn't the baseline guy's fault because he sees just what is in front of him. If we would have made our free throws, it wouldn't have been a problem. If we had made our free throws we would have iced the game."
"In the huddle I said we have to dig in right now, this is our life on the line. I reminded the refs what they did to my life with that call."
"We played great defense and so did they. We did a great job on Novak with the exception of a couple boneheaded plays in our zone. Our young guys getting great experience for Chad and T-Will to be in such a pressure. It was a great game to get experience."
Marquette Head Coach Tom Crean
"That is a fair assessment they played excellent and they played very hard. It was a very hard intense battle. It was one of the most intense battles that I have been associated with as a coach. I am very proud of the way our team played. They never got discouraged and never got down. You know it was a tough start and we came back. It was a see-saw game and we made a big play at the end of regulation. We got great looks in overtime but there were couple some things we would like to have back from the overtime. In the overtime, they had a couple more big plays than we did at the end."
(On the atmosphere) "All the games are intense -- this is Big East basketball. We are riding coattails of our seniors and freshmen who are playing a lot of minutes we have very young team game like this is valuable to growth. You wish you could walk out with a win. We played very hard and very aggressive and it is a learning process. They won the game but it isn't like we lost it. It was just one of those things. They made a few more plays at the end and they did a good job. We had the opportunity to be right there down to the wire as well."
"What is relevant is to bounce back get ready to play Providence at home for senior night and try to send three great guys off the right way. Providence will very much be a challenge too. We can't be caught up in byes and NCAA tournament concerns. We will not worry about what the masses feel like, we will worry about how we feel .I am worried about how we will bounce back."
