Dzaflo Larkai and Matt Otte led the Knights with 14 points each. Larkai fouled out with 1:40 left.
The game looked like it might become a blowout as the Cardinals (5-2) scored the first six points of the game against the Division II Knights. The Knights threatened to make a game of it when Larkai made a layup trimming the Cardinals' lead to 15-12. Louisville went on a 12-2 run, to make the score 27-14 with 8:31 left in the first half.
The Knights (3-5) would get as close as four before halftime but trailed at the break 37-32.
The closest Bellarmine would get in the second half was after an Otte 3-pointer made the score 52-46 with 13:18 left.
Louisville got its largest lead, 62-48, after a layup by freshman Derrick Caracter, with 9:13 remaining.
Louisville made a better percentage of 3-pointers (46) than free throws (27) in the first half. The Cardinals made 14-of-27 free throws for 52 percent.
Marcus Flynn led Bellarmine with nine rebounds and made all four of his free throw attempts, the only free throws the Knights took.
Scott Davenport is in his second year as Bellarmine's head coach and was an assistant at Louisville for nine years.
Ohio beat St. Joseph's in the earlier Classic game, 79-72.
The Cardinals beat the Hawks and Bobcats in their other two games of the Classic. Bellarmine lost to both.
