LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Two impressive high school products have each signed a national letter-of-intent to continue their basketball playing careers at the University of Louisville.
George Goode, a 6-8, 205-pound forward from Raytown (Mo.) South High School and Clarence Holloway, a 7-1, 270-pound center from Chicago who will will attend the Chicago Boys To Men Math and English Academy this season, have signed to play for the Cardinals.
Goode averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots as a junior last season in helping Raytown South High School to a 23-4 record. Raytown South earned a No. 5 final ranking in the state after falling in the district tournament. Goode was a first team all-conference selection as a junior.
"George is a terrific athlete who is a great shooter," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "Those are two qualities that we really need -- someone who can knock down the outside shot and also give us great athleticism. He fits our style of play like a glove. We're very excited to have George in our program."
Goode is generally regarded as a top 100 prospect nationally. He is rated No. 66 among the Hot 100 seniors in the class of 2007 by SI.com, the 73rd best prospect in the nation by Scout.com, 86th by USA Today recruiting analyst Rob Harrington, and 97th by Rivals.com.
Goode also considered Oklahoma State, Missouri, Kansas, Baylor and Marquette before signing with the Cardinals.
Holloway had previously signed with the Cardinals prior to his senior year at Harlan High School in Chicago, where he averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds as a senior in 2004-05. Following his senior year at Harlan, he spent time at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and was an early entry candidate for the 2006 NBA Draft before removing his name from consideration. He will attend the Chicago Boys To Men Math and English Academy this year.
"We've known Clarence for a long time," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "He looked closely at the NBA, but realizes that he needs college from a developmental standpoint, not only for his game but in the physical development of his body. He's a good post player, shot-blocker, rebounder and has very good hands. He works hard and we're thrilled to have him join our team."
Holloway is rated 10th nationally among fifth year players by The Hoop Scoop. As a rising senior in high school, Holloway was rated as the No. 67 prospect by The Hoop Scoop, No. 69 overall and fourth among centers by Rivals.com, and was among the top 100 prospects by Prep Basketball Magazine. He averaged 5 points and 4.3 rebounds for the silver medal winning North squad in the 2004 USA Basketball Men's Youth Development Festival.
Holloway chose Louisville after also considering Cincinnati and DePaul.
