Louisville Notes
- U of L won its 16th straight game at home, the longest winning streak in school history and the second longest in the nation (behind USC). U of L is 20-1 in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium under coach Bobby Petrino.
- U of L improved to 8-0 on the season, matching the Cardinals' only unbeaten season in 1925.
- The two teams combined for a BIG EAST Conference record 1,008 yards (Louisville 468, West Virginia 540), breaking the old mark of 907 produced by Virginia Tech (504) and Syracuse (403) on Nov. 9, 2002.
- Junior quarterback Brian Brohm completed 19-of-26 passes for 354 yards tonight, his eighth career 300-yard passing game (second-highest at U of L) and third this season. His 354 passing yards was his best since throwing for a career-high 389 against USF last season. Brohm became the seventh U of L quarterback in school history to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a career (5,325 currently).
- Junior placekicker Art Carmody booted field goals of 39, 25 and 18 yards to improve to 14-of-15 on field goals this season. It was Carmody's fourth career game with three field goals and his third this year (also vs. Middle Tennessee, Cincinnati). He has connected on 28 of his last 29 attempts (40-of-46 for his career).
- WR Harry Douglas had a career-best 116 yards receiving for the Cardinals on six catches.
- WR Mario Urrutia produced his sixth 100-yard receiving game and third this season with six catches for 113 yards. With Douglas and Urrutia, it was the first time the Cardinals have had two receivers with 100 yards since Ibn Green (166) and Arnold Jackson (108) combined to accomplish that feat vs. Memphis in 2000.
- WR Trent Guy returned a third-quarter punt 40 yards for a touchdown. It was the Cardinals first punt return for a TD since Montrell Jones had a 72-yard score against Cincinnati on Nov. 27, 2004. It was the redshirt freshman Guy's sixth punt return (he had four vs. Syracuse for 20 yards).
- LB Malik Jackson's 13 yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter was the Cardinals' first defensive score since DT Earl Heyman had a 30 yard fumble return for a TD against North Carolina last season (Oct. 8, 2006).
- Louisville's 468 yards in total offense was the most the Mountaineers have allowed this season (previous high: 333 vs. Maryland). The Cardinals entered the game second in the nation in total offense while West Virginia ranked 12th in total defense (fourth in passing defense).
- Steve Slaton rushed for 156 yards, becoming just the second player this season to rush for more than 100 yards against the Cardinals. WVU's 318 rushing yards were the most the Cardinals have allowed since New Mexico State gained 401 on the ground on Aug. 23, 2001. The Mountaineers' 535 total yards was the most the Cardinals allowed this season.
- West Virginia entered the game having lost four fumbles in their first seven games. The Mountaineers fumbled six times against the Cardinals, losing three.
- The 30-yard kickoff return by JaJuan Spillman in the first quarter was the longest kickoff return this season for the Cardinals.
- The sold-out crowd of 43,217 for today's game was the largest in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium history. All four of the Cardinals' crowds this season have been among the top 12, including the previous stadium record of 42,704 that witnessed U of L's victory over Miami (Fla.).
