
Volleyball Vexes Villanova with Three Game Sweep

Ana Yartseva Stewart had 11 kills, two aces and a block to lead the University of Louisville to a 30-19, 30-24, 30-27 sweep of visiting Villanova in BIG EAST volleyball action in Sunday afternoon in Cardinal Arena
The Cardinals improve to 11-6 and 5-1 in the BIG EAST with Villanova falling to 9-11 and evening its league record at three. U of L hit .306 for the match and had 11 service errors and six blocks. Svetlana Dukule added 10 kills and Tatyana Kolesnikova came off the bench to notch nine kills and two aces. Villanova was led by Dana Tartazky's 12 kills and 10 digs.
"I am pleased with the way our team is getting together," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "I think our tough pre-conference schedule is paying dividends for us. Our young players are starting to show what they understand the system and that they are comfortable with our new setter. Sam is understanding what they need now."
U of L used a 9-2 run in the first game to go up 16-10. Help from the Cards' torrid .571 hitting and five service aces pushed U of L to the 30-19 win. The Cards were paced by Stephanie Marsh's four kills and Samantha Dabbs had three of the five aces.
U of L fell behind 9-1 early in the second game before using an 8-1 run to recover. VU rallied late to get within 9 at 24-21 but U of L scored five straight to get to game point. The Wildcats gamely staved off the deciding point three times but missed a serve to give U of L the game.
VU regrouped after the break and used a 9-0 run to go up 23-14. U of L answered with a 7-0 run to come within three at 24-21. A 7-2 run gave the match to U of L.
