Women's Tennis Completes Final Day at Vanderbilt

The University of Louisville completed competition at the June Stewart Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville this weekend.

In the second day of competition, Natalia Baez, the only Cardinal to win her first two matches fell in her third match of the tournament with a loss to Maria Vallasciani of Middle Tennessee. Bianca Gorbea split on the first day but came back to win over Murray State's Rachel Lask. Robyn White also split on the first day of competition but fell to Marijan Cutuk of Florida International in a three set 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 loss. Sophomore Maria Klokotzky split the first day and then fell 6-4, 6-0 the second day to Arizona State's Rebecca Rankin. Jo-Ann Van Aerde fell to Vandy's Caroline Ferrell 6-4, 6-3.

"Our girls were battling against great competition and in very chilly weather," said Greg Davis, U of L head coach. "I was very pleased with our effort and teamwork."

In doubles action, Gorbea and Baez fell to Arizona State but then beat VU's Ferrell and Taka Bertrand 9-7. Lauren Imre and Robyn White teamed to beat Arizona State's Roxanne Clarke and Laila Abdala 9-7 before losing their next two matches. Klokotzky and Van Aerde won their first two matches before falling to the pair from Vandy.
