
Men's Tennis Advances in ITA Midwest Regional Doubles Action

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team completed a successful first day at the ITA Midwest Region Championship as doubles teams of Slavko Radman and Damar Johnson and Robert Rotaru and David Simon each picked up wins to advance to the round of 32.
No. 26-ranked Radman and Johnson, the tournament's top-seeded doubles team defeated Illinois' Billy Heiser and Mark Spicijaric 8-5 in the first round of play. Rotaru and Simon beat Matt Metully and Evgeny Samolov 8-6 in Friday's round of 64.
"Radman and Johnson played extremely well to defend their No. 1 seeding against a talented Illinois team that gave them all they could handle," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Now they are playing their way into the tournament with a match like that."
Main draw singles will begin on Saturday, Oct. 21. Johnson will play Northern Illinois' Brian Livingston at 8 a.m. Radman, seeded fifth in singles will take on Wisconsin's Felipe Bellido at 9:30 am. Rotaru and Wisconsin's Nolan Polley will meet at 10:30 a.m. Simon will play Notre Dame's Brett Helgeson at 12:00 p.m. Chris Herrlinger will take on Brendon Davis of Illinois Saturday at 8 a.m.
The singles finalists and doubles champion will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 2-5, at Ohio State University.
