LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville freshman forward Derrick Caracter will sit out the first three games for the Cardinals this season because he received benefits from a family friend during the summer of 2005 prior to his senior year of high school.
Caracter will miss the Cardinals' Nov. 18 game against Northwestern State, Nov. 24 against Dayton in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Dec. 2 against Sacramento State. He will continue to work out with the team and will be able to play in U of L's two exhibition games: Nov. 1 vs. Georgetown (Ky.) College and Nov. 19 against Kentucky Wesleyan. He will take the court for the first time this season when the Cardinals face Arizona in the Jimmy V Classic on Dec. 5 at New York's Madison Square Garden.
"That's the decision and we will move forward. It's behind us now," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino.
Caracter had repaid a loan in question with the family friend prior to the NCAA's ruling on the matter. U of L will not appeal the decision.
