BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Blazers scored the only goal of the match, just under a minute into the second half to upend the University of Louisville women's soccer team 1-0 on Sunday.
Jennifer Williams took a pass from Sally Palmer and slipped a long volley past sophomore keeper Tiffany Hansen in the 46th minute.
"We played well in the first half, but you need to give a lot of credit to UAB, as they were the better team in the second half," stated Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
The Cardinals (3-1-0) outshot the Blazers (2-2) 7-6 in the first half, but the Blazers stormed back for a 10-4 shot advantage in the second half and a 5-0 edge on corner kicks.
Louisville tied UAB for second place in the weekend tournament, while sophomore Liz Kinny, who scored two goals in the Cardinal win over Tulane on Friday, and senior back Gina Lower were named to the All-Tournament Team.
"Both of our players definitely deserved the honor. Liz was tremendous in both matches this weekend," Ferguson added.
Monique Gjini lead the Cards with four shots, while Kinny and Jen Avila each had two.
Louisville will remain on the road, travelling to face Murray State on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. ET before returning home next Sunday to host Western Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
