Louisville Notes
- Senior defensive end Elvis Dumervil, who set a single-game NCAA record for sacks in a game against Kentucky with six, established a new NCAA record for the most sacks in two consecutive games with nine (former record: Pat Swilling of Georgia Tech who had eight in two games in 1995). Dumervil (pronounced DOO-mer-vil) finished the game with three sacks for a loss of 30 yards, six tackles and two forced fumbles.
- Redshirt freshman WR Mario Urrutia caught seven passes for 175 yards, tied for the 10th most yards ever for a U of L receiver. It was the most yards by a Cardinal receiver since Zek Parker had 184 receiving yards at Kentucky on Sept. 1, 2001. Urrutia (pronounced U-root-tee-uh) started at wide receiver for the second straight game, but this game marked his first career reception.
- Sophomore QB Brian Brohm had a stellar outing, completing 18-of-22 passes for 368 yards and five touchdowns. His completion percentage of 81.8 percent is tied for the second-best single-game completion percentage ever at U of L (best: Stefan LeFors, 12-of-14, 85.7 percent vs. East Carolina in 2004). In two games, Brohm has completed 37-of-49 passes (75.5 percent) for 547 yards and 5 TDs.
Brohm's five TD passes were the most for a U of L quarterback since Dave Ragone accomplished that feat against East Carolina on Oct. 26, 2002
- Sophomore WR Harry Douglas produced career highs in receptions (3) and yards (91) while scoring the first touchdown of his career.
- Senior LB Brandon Johnson produced his second career interception return for a touchdown, a 15-yard TD pick in the third quarter (his first was a 20-yard interception against Cincinnati on Nov. 28, 2003). It was his third career defensive touchdown, scoring a TD last season against Cincinnati on a 24-yard blocked punt return (11/27/04). Johnson added three tackles and three assisted stops in the game.
- Sophomore tight end Gary Barnidge caught his fifth career touchdown pass, a four-yarder from Brian Brohm in the first quarter. It was his fifth TD reception in only nine career receptions.
- Freshman defensive tackle Earl Heyman made his collegiate debut on the last play of the first quarter. Heyman recovered a fumble in the second quarter off a sack from senior Elvis Dumervil.
- Redshirt freshman QB Hunter Cantwell saw his first career action, connecting all three of his pass attempts for 60 yards.
- The 63 Louisville points matched the most ever allowed by Oregon State (also vs. Stanford in 1981, and vs. USC in 1985). The combined 133 points in U of L's consecutive home games is the second-highest ever for the Cardinals and the most since producing 148 in back-to-back games in 1913.
- U of L improved to 16-0 when scoring over 40 points under coach Bobby Petrino. The Cardinals have scored over 50 nine times in Petrino's third season at U of L. The Cardinals have produced over 40 points in 11 of the last 16 games.
- U of L is 11-1 in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in two years under head coach Bobby Petrino. The Cards have won seven straight home games.
- Defensively, the Cardinals have held their first two opponents to a collective 89 rushing yards in 52 attempts (47 yards vs. UK, 42 vs. Oregon State). U of L entered the game ranked sixth nationally in rushing defense.
- The sellout crowd of 42,647 was the third-largest ever in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
