2005 Louisville Quarterbacks
This fall, sophomore Brian Brohm takes over the reins at quarterback and the responsibility of running the offense. The most decorated recruit ever to sign with the Cardinals, Brohm is coming off a great spring and looks ready to be the leader of the nation's most-talented unit.
Appearing in 11 games, Brohm showed a strong arm and the accuracy needed for Petrino's offensive system.
Brohm threw for 819 yards and six touchdowns, while completing 67.3 percent of his throws and tossing just two interceptions. Brohm also showed an ability to run the ball, rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 12-of-16 passes for a career-high 186 yards against East Carolina and was 6-for-7 for 39 yards in his first collegiate game against Kentucky.
Red-shirt freshmen Hunter Cantwell and Bill Ashburn will also compete for playing time at quarterback. Cantwell had a solid spring and looked comfortable running the offense. He showed a strong arm and made all the necessary throws.
Freshman Lee Sweeney signed last winter and could be someone to figure in the mix. A product of Friendship Christian High School (Tenn.), Sweeney threw for 5,173 yards in two seasons as the starter and completed 63.2 percent of his throws as a senior.
