Louisville coach Rick Pitino
"Arkansas State is well-coached basketball team, very tough minded. They played well together. We had to play good defense to get the victory. We learned a lot from this game. Our veterans had to learn when you're cold you don't jack up shots. You run your offense and take high percentage shots. So your people have a high percentage chance of rebounding. We got the victory and we learned valuable lessons that will help us as a basketball team and we're pleased with the victory."
"The most important thing about this basketball team is that they execute. If you don't run your offense, you're not going to get good shots. We were taking good shots, but we were missing. What we were trying to raise our percentage was come down, make one pass and take a long jump shot. We learned something tonight and our freshmen observed from the bench. We didn't turn the ball over much and got playing time for Chad Millard, which was significant and important for us."
(About Richmond) "Richmond has the same system as Air Force and Princeton. They are very difficult to play with. If we take the shots we did tonight, they'll win by 12 points. Teams that get frustrated against their style will get hurt."
Arkansas State Head Coach Dickey Nutt
"I want to say how impressed we are with this program. I can only marvel at the last couple of nights with fans and this team. It's an honor to be here. Our team played hard and I'm proud of them tonight. They have the kind of program that scares you to death. We executed well and didn't back down. They have a very good team. Padgett makes them play a step above, he may not have had the game he wanted tonight, but we feel like we may have had something to do with that. Those guys can shoot the ball - they're very good. We'll be their biggest fans throughout the year and watch them in the NCAA tournament. A loss a loss is a loss and we're disappointed with that. We've taken good steps the last few days. We've got our hands full tomorrow night."
(On Taquan Dean) "His personality seems to be that he has ultimate confidence in a basketball player in a shooting guard. He basically has a green light. He can score anytime. When you have a player like that it makes it tough to defend. He's got a beautiful shot and can shoot everywhere on the floor. He's a very athletic, very smart player. He never opened his mouth, never said a word, never taunted never made it clear that he was better than everybody on the floor, he just played basketball. I respect him for that."
(On Dereke Tipler) "He played well tonight as he always does. He has a heart as big as this arena. The first 6 or 7 minutes, we were intimidated and timid. After the second timeout, I told them we felt like we belonged. Offensively we were able to get out in the lanes and get a few deflections. Offensively, we did some things and executed a little bit, their perimeter shut us down."
