Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
"We played a decent first half especially moving the basketball and took a lot of good shots. In second half we reverted back to what we did at Kentucky. We tried to do it one on three and one on four and took poor shots. In one game, you don't get all your lessons in one loss. We did do a good job of moving the basketball and did a good job of keeping them to one offensive rebound. We are happy with the win. The guys are going to take Christmas off and we are coming back to work on the game."
"We are not a great one-on-one basketball team. We got to use it with ball movement, player movement, good screens, work inside to out. We need to get our big guys to play bigger. Ellis Myles was only 6-71/2 but he played big, he stepped up big, he challenged shots big. Our fours and fives are stepping up small. It's like jumping over a sheet of paper when they challenge shots. We are playing very small from a defensive intimidation standpoint. We don't have good size."
"We are where we should be with what we lost and what we returned. The effort is good, they are good people. But we are exactly where we should be, I don't think that we should be blowing anyone out. There are some teams that are definitely inferior to us and we could blow them out but this team played Ohio to one point the other night and they have good guard play. I wish it wasn't as close as it was there because we could have lost the game."
"I am really not pleased with the improvement that we are making. I think our guys are are having a very difficult time putting together 40 minutes of basketball. Yes we are playing a lot of different players. Our fours and fives have to play bigger, they play too small. They have the size to play big but they don't play big with their intimidation of challenging shots."
Detroit Head Coach Perry Watson
"Proud of the way my guys hung in there in fought against a quality opponent such a well coached team. We were our own worst enemies at times. We didn't get much production out of front line and that kinda hurt us. We do need those guys to produce. We had so many unforced turnovers that I recall in the first half that it kinda put us in an uphill battle. I thought our guys did a great job and we had our opportunities to get back in and put ourselves in postion to get a win. But we didn't get our opportunites at the line and we put them on the line too much and were unable to take advantage."
