
Petrino Previews Toyota Gator Bowl Matchup with Virginia Tech

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville football head coach Bobby Petrino, senior defensive end Elvis Dumervil, senior wide receiver Joshua Tinch and redshirt freshman quarterback Hunter Cantwell met with members of the media on Thursday to preview U of L's upcoming Toyota Gator Bowl matchup with No. 12 Virginia Tech. The Cards and Hokies will meet on Monday, Jan. 2 at 12:30 p.m. ET at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., and the game will be televised nationally on NBC.
Louisville (9-2), which finished second in the BIG EAST Conference, closed the regular season on Dec. 3 with a 30-20 win at Connecticut. Virginia Tech (10-2), which won the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference, fell 27-22 to Florida State in the ACC Championship played in Jacksonville, Fla. on Dec. 3.
Louisville and Virginia Tech have played six times previously, with the Hokies holding a 2-4 advantage. The Cardinals won the last meeting 21-17 on Oct. 10, 1992 in Louisville.
The schools had two common opponents this season in North Carolina and West Virginia. Louisville downed the Tar Heels 69-14 on Oct. 8 and fell 46-44 in triple overtime at West Virginia on Oct. 15. Virginia Tech beat West Virginia 34-17 on Oct. 1 and was a 30-3 winner over North Carolina on Nov. 26.
