Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino
(Opening Comments) "When you shoot 50 percent and get 37 deflections and only have 13 turnovers, you're supposed to win by 15 or 20 points when you see stats like that. But, our man to man defense is about as bad as I've seen it since I've been at U of L. I sort of knew it. It was good that we played all man to man in this game to get our players to understand how much growth we need to play basketball. That was an undersized, well coached team that dominated us inside. We did some good things on offense. We played hard, but we don't play well. The knowledge of knowing what to run, that's our biggest weakness."
(Response of the freshmen in the second half) "I think defensively they came on in the second half. They played with emotion. I think they're willing to play with emotion."
"I think it's very disturbing when your point guard is the leading rebounder on the team. You may say Padgett and Tello aren't playing, but there could come a time in the season where they won't be playing."
USI Head Coach Rick Herdes
(Opening Comments) "It's an honor to be at the University of Louisville to play and an opportunity to play against a top ten team in the country. I know you're a little shorthanded and so are we today. We didn't start David Bryant and when we get Jeff van Winkle, our only returning starter from last year at the end of the season back I feel like we can be a decent basketball team. I thought our kids played hard. I thought we just ran out of gas at the end and the pressure and their athleticism. At time there were stretches where we just had maybe a couple of minutes where if we wouldn't have turned the ball over, good things can happen for us. It also shows that we played three games in three days last week and so we've got a little bit more under our belt than we do, and that will only come with time. I think Chris Thompson for us is a just an awfully good basketball player. At 6'6, he gets a lot out of his abilities. And, in Danny Gibson, my other senior that played, he really guards. It was a real challenge for him to be able to guard Taquan Dean. Taquan Dean is as good of a basketball player as I've seen or coached against with his quickness and ability to get it off. That includes Tennessee's kids the other day and Cincinnati last year. He's special."
(On his impression of Louisville's freshmen) "I thought at the start of the second half they really came out with a lot of emotion, and really played physical. I think they went on a 9-0 run to start the second half and I wasted a couple of timeouts. I think they are very, very good."
