Louisville Coach Rick Pitino
"I'm excited about the victory. I was concerned because we beat a good team with a lot of experience. I told you without (Juan) Tello (Palacios), we would not have won tonight. Experience wins over talent in college. We are lucky we got him back."
"We knew they were going to play a 1-3-1 zone coming in. We missed a lot of shots that normally go in. I think our guys played a good basketball game considering it was the opening game."
(on the second half run) "When you make buckets you put the pressure on. We were able to get in our zone, get good shots and our guys played a good game today."
(on playing zone defense) "There is a reason we went to the Final Four. The 2-3 zone carried us there. There is a reason Jim Boeheim won 700 games. I'd like to get to where we play 60-40 man (defense) but right now we can't defend anybody with our main guys on the bench."
(on Juan Palacios) "He just hasn't played basketball. Five and a half months without touching a ball and that is very tough. To do what he did tonight was astonishing. The only thing I asked him to do was not dribble the ball. I probably won't play him tomorrow until he tells me he feels good."
Tennessee Martin Coach Bret Campbell
"I was proud of our effort. It was a nice homecoming for Jeremy Kelly, but not nice enough. I thought we might pull something out but I knew it was going to be a tall order."
"I'm glad we came back together after the run they went on in the second half. Give Louisville a lot of credit. They didn't shoot the ball well in the first half and when you go from 15 to 50 percent from three-point range, that is pretty good."
(on Palacios) "He is very physical and 16 points and 11 rebounds is a pretty good night. When he is in the lineup, it changes the complexion on how you guard the post. When he and (David) Padgett are in the lineup, this will be a special team. When those young guys learn to play, they will be very good."
