Louisville Head Coach Bobby Petrino
"That was a good win for us and I'm very happy about it. It was a great job by our defense. They did a good job in the first half of keeping Rutgers off the scoreboard. Our offense had some mistakes and gave them a short field a couple of times, but our defense did a good job of backing them up. I thought the turning point was Jon Russell's interception. He did a nice job of returning it and we got that touchdown before the half. We also got that score on the first drive of the second half and I felt like our offense played the way it can in the second half."
" Joshua Tinch had a great game for us. It's good to see that smile on his face when he has that kind of production because he's definitely the leader for our team. It's good to see that kind of guy have success. I think we definitely missed Michael Bush. (Rutgers) did a nice job defensively and they changed almost every one of their tendencies. Brian (Brohm) played pretty well tonight and had a great percentage. He really stood in there and competed. They can really rush the passer and we didn't protect the quarterback in the first half. When I say `we,' I mean our entire offense. We got it corrected at halftime and finished the game the way we were supposed to."
(On playing without running back Michael Bush) "You always miss a great player like Michael. Our players take great pride in overcoming obstacles like losing a good player. Not only our offense, but our defensive players take pride in that too. We were very fortunate that we played that well."
(On whether anyone takes the play of Brian Brohm for granted) "Definitely. Everybody in the city of Louisville, the state of Kentucky and maybe his coach sometimes. He played great tonight. He works hard in practice on improving and it shows."
(On the play of wide receiver Joshua Tinch) "We have a list of plays for Joshua, Montrell (Jones) and Harry (Douglas) in order to get them the ball. He did a nice job of getting open and Brian did a nice job of getting him the ball. He plays with so much energy and enthusiasm. He's really good with echoing the coaches and what we want. He said tonight that `we look good, so let's play good.'"
(On the question of Rutgers meeting at midfield prior to the game) "I never expected it. I think that may be something they do before each game. I think they may get together at midfield after the final punt in warm-ups. Our guys took it personal because it's happened to us before. I don't think (Rutgers) intended on it but we'll take it. I would imagine that's just something they do each week."
Louisville Senior WR Joshua Tinch
"All week we practiced hard and had such a good week of practice. At the hotel I told myself I only have two home games left. Tonight was a good night for me, I was going a 110 percent and good things happened for me. I wanted 15 (catches) I wanted to break the record but you get what you get."
"It motivates us when we see people jumping on the bird ... Everyone plays good at home, we practice in the facility. You know how to run your route in the stadium. At half time, they came in and told us we (the offense) gotta keep playing. We had a good first half, but we have to win the fourth quarter."
"They had great sportsmanship, there was no trash talking. Both teams were trying hard to win. We are very happy to get a Big East win and that is the most important part. You have to do good in the third and fourth quarter if you want to be a great offense."
(On playing without Michael Bush) "We have a lot of athletes here at the University of Louisville. We have a lot of running backs and wide receiver's and a lot of different people can come in and contribute. Kolby Smith and George Stripling put on a show tonight."
Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano
"We really didn't play like ourselves. We got the ball on our 45 and got two personal fouls. We didn't really capitalize on anything. When you have young men who come out and sacrifice you can't say they didn't play at all. If you go out and lay it on the line, regardless of the outcome there is a lot being played. I don't think we played as well as we could and that is what we need to work on."
"I thought what they did in the first half, I thought we played well against it. When you are playing against an opponent with the talent level that Louisville has, anything you do wrong gets exposed. For whatever reason we were playing with massive errors out there in the third quarter."
"I remember I looked up at the clock in the third quarter and there were about six minutes in the fourth quarter and we had only run three offensive plays. We were out there a lot and we weren't able to stop them. We couldn't get a stop against them. We had some third downs that were really manageable third downs but we had little technique flaws that cost you dearly when you are playing a team that is that efficient."
