- Junior running back Michael Bush missed his first career game with a sprained left foot. Bush, who didn't practice all week, did some light running this week, but decided against versus Rutgers. It's the first game of his high school and college career that he has missed.
- SR Wide receiver Joshua Tinch caught a pass in his 25th consecutive game. He leads the team with 54 and now has 332 yards for the year, which is eighth place in school history.
- The Cardinals won their school record 11th straight at home. The Cardinals are15-1 all-time at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium under head coach Bobby Petrino. The 11 wins are tied for the fifth-longest streak in the country.
- QB Brian Brohm recorded his fourth career rushing touchdown on a quarterback sneak in the first quarter. It is his fifth career 300-yard passing game. That is the third highest total behind Jay Gruden and Stefan LeFors.
- Rutgers KR/RB Sergio Spencer recorded the longest kickoff return of the season when he returned a kick 61 yards in the first quarter.
- The 64-yard punt by Todd Flannery in the second quarter was a career-long kick for him and the ninth longest kick in school history.
- Safety Jon Russell's interception of a Ryan Hart's pass late in the second quarter is his career first.
- Kolby Smith's touchdowns late in the second quarter and early in the third quarter were good for his second three-touchdown game of his career. He had two touchdowns against Florida Atlantic earlier this season.
- Despite not having the services of Michael Bush, who is tied for the nation's lead in rushing touchdowns, the Cardinals were able to score three rushing touchdowns in the first half and five for the game.
- Elvis Dumervil's forced fumble in the first half added to his total for the season. He now has 10 forced fumbles, resetting his own national record. The previous record was 8.0 set by both Dwight Freeney of Syracuse and Quintin Mikell of Boise State.
- WR Mario Urrutia's catch in the first half was his first reception since being injured in the game versus West Virginia.
- Thirteen of quarterback Brian Brohm's 16 passing touchdowns have come at home in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium
- Tight End Breno Giacomini had his career first touchdown reception in the third quarter.
- Joshua Tinch now has 149 career receptions which ranks him No. 7 all-time. He notched his third 100-reception yard game of his career and second this year. His 183 yards rushing against Rutgers is a career-high, his previous high was 148 versus Houston in 2004.
- This is the ninth straight game that the Cardinals have scored 40 or more points at home in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
- RB Kolby Smith's 17 carries is his career high.
- OG Kurt Quartman had his third rushing touchdown of his career late in the third quarter.
