
Field Hockey Falls to Ball State 2-1

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The University of Louisville field hockey team opened Mid-American Conference play with a 2-1 loss to host Ball State Friday.
Ball State jumped to an early 1-0 lead when Lindsay Quay opened the scoring just 10:26 into the first half. The assist was credited to Chantelle Isaac. Five minutes later, the BSU Cardinals increased their lead to 2-0 when Isaac dished another pass to Holly Frantz who delivered the goal at the 15:16 mark. Ball State took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Louisville struck back in the second half with a goal by sophomore Jessica Javelet at 50:10 coming off a penalty corner. Javelet was assisted by sophomore Lisa Wasser and junior April White on the score.
Both teams battled back and forth for the remaining 20 minutes, but BSU finished on top to clinch its first win of the year.
Louisville goalkeeper freshman Marie-Claire Heller (1-2) collected four saves in the game. Ball State goalkeeper Tracy Bannister earned the win to move her record to 1-3 on the season. Bannister made three saves in the contest, with all of them coming in the second half.
U of L outshot Ball State 11-8 and held a 6-2 penalty corner advantage.
Louisville (2-6, 0-1) will close out its conference opening weekend against Central Michigan on Saturday. The game has been moved from Mt. Pleasant, Mich., to East Lansing.
