LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Due to the threat of Hurricane Ivan to the New Orleans area, the football game between the University of Louisville and Tulane University has been postponed. The game is tentatively re-scheduled for the weekend of December 4 at the Louisiana Superdome.
"We are very supportive and sympathetic for our counterparts at Tulane University," said Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich. "Rick Dickson is a dear friend of mine, and we know what they are going through. We appreciate all their efforts to attempt to get the game in, but this football game is secondary. We hope the people who might be affected by this tragedy are safe and can resume their daily activities as soon as possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the vicinity of this tragedy."
"We are obviously disappointed about not playing, but we understand that this football game is meaningless when you're talking about a national disaster, " said head coach Bobby Petrino. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to head coach Chris Scelfo and his players, and everyone who'll be affected by this storm."
The Cardinals are off until September 25 when they travel to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina at 1:35 p.m.
