Louisville, Ky. - The biggest improvement this season will be in the midfield. Colavecchia probably has the most talented group of midfielders in his eight year tenure. Along with the talent, for the first time in a while the Cardinals have depth in the midfield. "I think we have more options in the middle than ever before," Colavecchia stated. "A key to the midfield will be junior Jelani Grant. He returns this season after sitting out his sophomore year. He is a skillful player and has a terrific left foot. Seniors Devin Matthews, Matt Rose and Ian Quattroucchi will add a wealth of experience." Grant had an impressive freshman season with the Cardinals. He led the team in scoring and finished the season with five goals and three assists. He was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. Seniors Devin Matthews and Matt Rose have been regulars in the starting lineup since they were freshmen. They will be counted on to provide the leadership in the middle of the field. Senior Ian Quattroucchi also saw a lot of playing time last season and should give the Cardinals an experienced option in the midfield. Not only will the Cardinals have experience in the midfield but plenty of youth as well. Sophomores Jonathan Williams, Marco Terminesi, and Ryan Pomeroy all had formidable freshmen seasons. Also challenging for a spot in the midfield will be freshmen Anthony Celebre and David Guzman. Williams finished the season with two goals and two assists and played in every game for the Cardinals. Terminesi finished the season as the Cardinals' second leading scorer. He was also named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. Pomeroy finished the year with three goals and one assist. "Jonathan Williams had an exceptional freshman year and will be fighting for a spot on the right side," Colavecchia said. "Marco, who played a key role in some overtime wins will also be pushing for a place on the left side. " Ryan Pomeroy did well as an attacking midfielder. But this year we have some competition for this vital role. Freshman David Guzman has some tools plus he is a left-footed player. Anthony Celebre can be a player that can play in a couple of positions, as a forward or a midfielder. "One thing is for sure, we have some depth in the midfield."
