
Softball's Rendon Named C-USA Freshman of the Year

University of Louisville third baseman Audrey Rendon was named the 2004 Conference USA Freshman of the Year. She was joined on the All-C-USA First Team by senior Shannon Nord, junior Aja Sherman and sophomore Lacy Wood. Junior Sara Bausher was named to the All-C-USA second team. Catherine Bishop, Kady Garrick, Courtney Moore and Rendon earned All-C-USA Freshman team honors. The award winners and all-league teams were chosen by C-USA's nine head coaches.
Rendon, a native of Pueblo, Colo., leads the team in batting and is second in the conference with a .421 average. She also has a team-best six triples and 17 stolen bases and is tied for the team lead with 35 runs scored. She earned C-USA Hitter of the Week honors on Feb. 16.
Nord, a leftfielder from Jeffersonville, Ind., was named to the C-USA first team for the second consecutive year. She is tied with Rendon for a team-leading 35 runs and is third on the team with a .349 batting average. Nord stands at second on the school's list for career stolen bases and has 15 steals on the season. She was named C-USA Hitter of the Week on April 26.
Sherman, who hails from Las Vegas, splits time between first base and pitcher, but earned first team all-conference honors as a pitcher. In only her second season in the circle on the collegiate level, Sherman has thrown three no-hitters, including Louisville's first perfect game and has six shutouts. Sherman (15-5) boasts a 1.38 ERA, is holding opponents to a .155 batting average and has struck out 144 batters in 127 innings. She earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season.
Wood, a catcher from Louisville, is second on the team with a .362 batting average. She leads the Cards with 12 doubles and 63 hits and is second with seven home runs on the season. Wood also has a team-best .563 slugging percentage.
Bausher, the Cardinals' centerfielder from Las Vegas, leads the team in home runs with eight. She also holds the school record for career home runs with 19. She is second on the team with 36 RBI and has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Bishop, a pitcher from Adelaide, Australia, has an 8-4 record, a 2.05 ERA and two saves on the season. She posted a complete-game shutout against then-No. 19 Iowa and earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors on March 2.
Garrick, a pitcher from Tucson, Ariz., leads the team in wins with a 17-6 record and is second on the team with a .177 ERA and five shutouts. She went the distance the Card's 3-1 win over then-No. 4 Oklahoma and has earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season.
Moore, Louisville's shortstop from Visalia, Calif., leads the team with 39 RBI. She has a .337 batting average with six home runs, nine doubles and has drawn a team-leading 21 walks on the season. Moore was named C-USA Hitter of the Week three times this year.
U of L (40-15, 19-5 C-USA) earned a No. 2 seed in the 2004 C-USA Softball Tournament. The Cardinals will play the winner of No. 6 East Carolina and No. 6 (and 17th ranked) South Florida Thursday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium.
